Dr. (Mrs.) Ciby Jose (K. Ciby Varghese) is a distinguished nursing academician,
researcher, and administrator with over three decades of experience in nursing
education, psychiatric nursing, and mental health research. With an unwavering
commitment to academic excellence and professional leadership, she has
significantly contributed to the advancement of nursing practice, education, and
research in India and internationally.
Dr. Ciby Jose earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from Vinayaka Missions University in
2012. She completed her M.Sc. Nursing (Psychiatric Nursing) in 2000 and B.Sc.
Nursing in 1996 from Omayal Achi College of Nursing, affiliated with The Tamil
Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. She also holds a Post Graduate
Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (2008) from Annamalai University. Her
doctoral research focused on the effectiveness of structured counselling
programmes among adolescents with behavioral problems, reflecting her deep-
rooted interest in youth mental health and psychiatric nursing.
Currently serving as the Principal of Venkateswara Nursing College, Chennai (since
January 2015), Dr. Ciby Jose provides visionary leadership in academic
administration, faculty development, and research promotion. Prior to this role, she
served as Vice-Principal at Hindu Mission College of Nursing and held several
academic positions including Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatric
Nursing at Omayal Achi College of Nursing. Her international clinical experience
includes serving as a Registered Psychiatric Staff Nurse with the Health Service
Executive, Dublin, Republic of Ireland, where she strengthened her global
perspective in mental health care.
A recognized leader in professional and academic circles, Dr. Ciby Jose has served
as a Senate Member and Board of Studies Member at The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R.
Medical University. She has also been an External Board of Studies Member for PG
programs at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, and has
contributed extensively as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for
professional nursing journals, including the TNNMC Journal and ICCR Journal of
Nursing Research.
Dr. Ciby Jose is a life member of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI),
the Indian Society of Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN), and the Nursing Research Society
of India (NRSI). She holds professional registrations in India, the Republic of
Ireland, and the United Kingdom, demonstrating her global professional credentials
in both general and psychiatric nursing.
An accomplished researcher and Ph.D. guide, she has mentored numerous doctoral
scholars and postgraduate students across leading universities in India. She has
served as Research Guide, Co-Guide, Doctoral Committee Member, and Research
Evaluator in multiple reputed institutions. Her research interests span adolescent
mental health, psychiatric interventions, counseling strategies, women’s health,
diabetes care, dementia, community mental health, and emerging challenges in
digitalization and youth wellbeing.
Dr. Ciby Jose has authored and co-authored more than 55 research publications in
national and international peer-reviewed journals and has presented extensively at
state, national, and international conferences. She has been a resource person,
chairperson, moderator, and keynote speaker at numerous academic forums,
addressing topics such as evidence-based practice, psychological well-being,
leadership in nursing, digital mental health, adolescent issues, and research
methodology.
Her excellence has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the
Academic Excellence & Outstanding Contribution to Research Citation (2013),
Best Research Paper Award at the 3rd International Conference on Transforming
Nursing Practice Through Research (2014), Women’s Empowerment Award
(2018), and the Teacher’s Day Felicitation Award (2025).
